SUT Academy of Medical Sciences marked a significant milestone in its healthcare journey with the inauguration of its new Cath Lab and Robotic Surgery Unit on 27 September 2026 at its Vattappara campus, Thiruvananthapuram.
The programme was presided over by Dr. A.C. Shanmugam, Chairman, and the facilities were inaugurated by Prof. (Dr.) Mohanan Kunnummal, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS), Thrissur, in the presence of institutional dignitaries and faculty members.
This development reflects the institution’s continued commitment to strengthening its medical infrastructure and expanding access to advanced cardiac and surgical care. It also carries forward a distinguished legacy in cardiac treatment, including Kerala’s first beating-heart coronary artery bypass surgery in 1987 and the first mitral valvuloplasty in 1988.
With the addition of these facilities, SUT Academy of Medical Sciences takes another step towards broadening its clinical capabilities and providing patients with access to modern medical interventions.
