Comprehensive Training Program on Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and Ethics

The Comprehensive Training Program on Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and Ethics, organized by the Institutional Ethics Committee of Sree Uthradom Thirunal Academy of Medical Sciences (SUTAMS), was successfully conducted on 9th October 2025. The event began with registration, followed by an inaugural session graced by the Principal, Dean, and distinguished guest speakers.

The program commenced with a warm welcome address by Dr. Renjini Ramachandran, Senior Resident, Department of Community Medicine, and IEC Administrator, SUTAMS, which was followed by the inaugural address delivered by Dr. Sivasuthan, Principal, SUT Medical College.

The training featured three enlightening sessions:
1. Principles of Ethics and ICMR Guidelines – by Dr. Mohanan Nair, Ethicist and Public Health Consultant, Chairman of the Institutional Ethics Committee at Sree Gokulam Medical College
2. Structure, Role, and Responsibilities of the Ethics Committee – by Dr. Regi Jose, Chairperson of the IEC, SUTAMS; Member Secretary of the IEC at Sree Gokulam Medical College; Professor in the Department of Community Medicine at Sree Gokulam Medical College, and a Member of the Forum for Ethics Review Committees in India (FERCI)
3. GCP Guidelines and NDCT Rules 2019 – by Dr. Swetha Reba Mathews, distinguished member of the Core Training Panel of the Pharmacovigilance Programme of India under the Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission; Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmacology, Sree Gokulam Medical College ; Member of the Institutional Ethics Committee at Believers Church Medical College Hospital, as well as a Member of FERCI.

A thought-provoking panel discussion on “Roles and Responsibilities of IEC Members” was conducted, followed by a post-test and an interactive valedictory session recognizing the Best Performer of the workshop.

The program concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Dr. Regi Jose, expressing appreciation to the speakers, participants, and organizing committee followed by the National Anthem. The event served as an enriching platform to strengthen knowledge of ethics and regulatory frameworks in clinical research.
