Best Wishes, Messages, and Celebration Ideas. Makar Sankranti is a harvest festival celebrated on January 14th every year. It marks the day when the Sun enters the zodiac sign of Capricorn, or “Makara” in Sanskrit. The same festival is celebrated all over India but it has different names. Lohri in North, Pongal in South, Makar Sankranti in Western parts, Gujarat calls it Uttarayan. Altogether it is the same festival.
